About
Origin
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to immigrant parents from Iceland and the Ivory Coast, Isak Douah’s upbringing was a unique blend of cultures. Frequent summers in Iceland ignited his passion for functional, utilitarian fashion. Discovering his love for sewing in 2017, he moved to Europe in 2018 to pursue his dream of establishing his own fashion label.
The journey began with ‘Secure’ in 2019, a subsidiary company focused on anti-theft bags, luggage, and accessories that started as a university group project, and later evolved into a full-time endeavor. Inspired to design 3D-printed footwear, in 2022, Isak designed the “Mabouias,” the world’s first 100% 3D-printed high-top sneakers, in collaboration with Zellerfeld, a German 3D printed footwear and technology company.
Amidst these innovations, the ID team worked tirelessly on the Fall/Winter 2023 Collection, a testament to their dedication to quality and functionality.
Philosophy
The Isak Douah philosophy is a narrative woven with passion, ethics, and a commitment to timeless, utilitarian fashion.
Isak’s journey as an inventor rather than a traditional designer stems from his engineering background. Criticism is not seen as a personal attack but as valuable data for enhancing products. This perspective brings an analytical yet creative approach to the design process.
Sustainability is not just a label, but an integral part of Isak Douah’s identity. When asked in an interview about fast fashion, he said that “the solution to making our industry more sustainable is not simply using a percentage of recycled polyester just to pander to more eco-conscious consumers; no, the solution is to design and produce timeless, durable,
high-quality investment garments that remain practical even as trends fluctuate and styles evolve, so they never end up in landfills.” Genuine efforts, not mere greenwashing, underline the brand’s commitment to ethical practices, rejecting the fast fashion cycle.
Rejecting conventional norms, Isak Douah’s creations are inherently unisex. Every piece is designed for people, irrespective of gender. “When I’m searching for fabric for a new design, I go to the fabric store, not the men’s fabric store or the women’s fabric store. The imaginary labels we place on the clothing come later in the process. I want to make stylish functional clothing for people, period.”
